Opening Reception: Friday, September 5th, 2014 at 6pm

Gallery Hours: By Appointment Only (through October 25th)

You Won’t Get Anything Done By Planning is a new series of paintings by Kansas City artist Jaime Rovenstine.

Rovenstine’s abstractions, informed by the artist’s intuitive sense of color and space, are intended to inspire a sense of wonder in the viewer. The formal elements within each work—loose, painterly washes of vibrant color, geometric forms, ribbon-like lines, and obsessive clusters of dots—are arranged to create dream-like landscapes and floating biospheres.

The exhibition’s title is a nod to Rovenstine’s artistic process. The composition of each piece is unplanned and developed  over time. Each painted component inspires the next, culminating in a fully realized work.

You Won’t Get Anything Done By Planning opens August 5th at Beggars Table Gallery in the Crossroads (2010 Baltimore) and will be on view through October 26th.

THE SPACE OR THE AGGREGATE: Works by Brandon Briscoe and Jaime Rovenstine

Beggars Table Gallery 2010 Baltimore St. Kansas City, MO 64108

Opening Reception: Friday, July 5th & Friday, August 2nd at 6pm

Gallery Hours: By Appointment Only (through August 30th)

The paintings and installations in The Space or the Aggregate explore containment and the congregation of forms. Both artists work seeks to distinguish networks of elements that might be interpreted as visually chaotic at times or obsessively designed at others. Rovenstine and Briscoe’s work find commonality in their attempts to corral and organize visual elements within abstract landscape.

The artist’s images also create a sense of visual dilemma. Rovenstine’s patterns, orbs and ribbon-like lines float and hover in vast ephemeral spaces while Briscoe’s work appears compact as lines and objects clumsily contain, stack and spill out into the gallery space. The works converse as they expose the contradictions and unifying elements within the whole.
